Michael J. Gatewood is an associate in ICC. As a member of both the Corporate & Business Practice and Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution Groups, his work focuses on business formations, corporate and finance projects, and commercial and civil litigation. Michael’s practice is varied and includes considerable experience with real estate transactions, probate, and banking and finance.Michael received his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Prior to joining Carlsmith Ball, Michael served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Michael J. Bordallo, Superior Court of Guam. During law school, Michael served as a Law Clerk in the Superior Court of Guam and as a Legal Intern for the Kansas City Public Defender’s Office.

Representative Matters

  • Represented and counseled businesses of all sizes and individuals in a wide range of legal issues, ranging from procurement disputes to personal injury cases. Represented clients in probate cases, property and contract disputes, trademark applications and challenges, administrative hearings, restraining orders, guardianship matters, and much more.
  • Assist clients with the purchase of numerous hotels and multimillion dollar commercial buildings. Assist clients with complex real estate purchases, including preclosing review of title issues, zoning and permit compliance. Assist clients with the due diligence review of a wide variety of legal issues affecting those purchases.
  • Prepare loan documents for commercial and residential loan transactions. Represent financial institutions in numerous amounts of small to medium loan workout matters and foreclosures. Work to assure that the institution receives maximum collateral, accounts receivable, or interests in other debtor assets.
